Attention Parents
If you have a change of address or phone number, or a correction to make in next year’s school directory, please call the school office.

Also, please check the School’s lost and found box in the Middle School and the bookcase in the 4th/5th grade hallway before the last week of school.  PE lost and found items can be found on the bookcase in the lobby outside the Field House.  All lost and found items will be on display on tables in the hall outside the Library the last week of school.

Awards Ceremony
All parents of students in grades one through eight are invited to attend the Awards Ceremony in the Field House on Thursday, June 5, at 9:00 a.m.  Many children will be receiving awards this year.  Parents of children receiving individual awards will be contacted.  This is a special occasion, and students are asked to dress in appropriate attire.

Boys:  Nice dress shorts or pants and a collared shirt.
Girls:  Nice shorts, pants or skirts and a collared shirt, or a dress.

Graduation Dress
Grades six and seven special assembly dress:  shirts and ties for boys, dresses or dress slacks for girls.  K-Prep though fifth grade students: blue or green shorts, depending on team color, white shirts, socks and sneakers.  These students will participate in the Blue-Green games after the graduation ceremony, and there will not be time to change clothes.

Friday, June 6
Just a reminder that Extended Day will NOT be in session following Graduation and the Blue/Green games on Friday, June 6.  All students will be dismissed at 11:00, following the Blue/Green games.

Congratulations New Officers for the 2008-2009 School Year
Amber Singh – President         Meghan Levis – Vice President
Audrey Song – Treasurer         Katie Song – Secretary

Campbell’s Soup Labels
It's time to mail in the remaining Campbell’s Soup Labels and Box Tops for Education.  Please bring in any labels or box tops you have saved as soon as possible.  We need to collect more Campbell soup labels.  Your efforts allow the school to order valuable supplies at the end of the year.

2008-2009 School Calendar
The 2008-2009 school calendar is available on the HDS website. Click on “Parents.” On the left side of the Parents page, you will see “Calendars.”  Click on Calendars and you will see “2008-09 Calendar” on the left side.  Click on that calendar and it will download for you.  If you have any problems, please let Ann Ice know.

Dragon Games
Grades one through five will be having Dragon Games on Friday, May 30 on the fields behind the Middle School beginning at 1:15.  The students will enjoy relays and popsicles.  Please pack a beach towel and extra water bottles for the afternoon.  Thank you, Mrs. Cain

Please Add a "Birthday" Gift To Your Year-End List

The Annual Giving Campaign during our "birthday year" will conclude on June 30. Please consider making a gift or paying your pledge by the end of June so that we may include your name in the 2007-2008 Annual Report, which will be published in the fall of 2008. A preliminary, shortened version of the Annual Report will be mailed within the next two weeks to double check names and gift payments.

In our continued efforts to raise money for the Capital Campaign, we cannot lose sight of the importance of the Annual Giving Campaign and the role it plays in the daily operations of the School. Tuition covers only 86% of the cost to educate a student. The difference is made up through the Annual Fund. Without Annual Fund contributions, tuition would have to increase to meet the needs of the faculty and our students. Even a small gift makes a large impact on our programs. Please keep a gift to the Annual Fund in mind as we conclude our anniversary year. We appreciate your support and thank the parents for making the campaign a success. Our parents traditionally have a parent participation percentage compared to other independent schools similar in size. Please feel free to call the Development office to see if you have made a gift for this fiscal year.  Thank you.

HDS Intermediate Division Destination Imagination (DI) Team
Congratulations to the HDS Intermediate Division DI Team, comprised of Livy Ayd, Sammy Bowen, Will Bolton, Drew Devanney, Charlotte Molali, Tommy Oursler and Ally Wright.  Our team ended up placing~23rd in the world (out of 72 Intermediate School teams!)  Numerous parents and HDS siblings accompanied the team.  All of HDS encouraged and supported a buddy team from Korea.

HDS Summer Camps
There are still spots open in all of the HDS summer camps.  Information can be found on the website under “Programs” on the main page.  Click “Summer Camps” on the navigation bar on the left to find information on all the camps.  If you have any questions, please call the office.

School’s Out for Summer Rock Concert

Come celebrate the end of final exams, enjoy your favorite ice cream, and dance to The Crazy 8’s and Trigger Word classic rock bands from the Maryland Conservatory of Music (starring Emily Oursler, Ethan Slusher, Alex Fang and Harry Foard) at Broom’s Bloom on Friday, May 30th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  Contact Susie Oursler at 410-207-1281 with questions.

Parent Association Meeting - Thursday, May 29
As the end of the school year approaches, the Parent Association needs your cooperation and participation to complete our agenda for this year, and to set the stage for the 2008-2009 school year.  Our final meeting, at 8:15 a.m. in the Library, will include the presentation of election results for class representatives, the election of next year's officers, and the vote on the wish list.

From the Health Room

All medication (inhalers, prescription and non-prescription medication) presently in the Health Room should be picked up by the end of June (Graduation Day is a good time to collect these).  Any remaining medications will be discarded on the first of July.

Please remind your children to wear sun block products with a SPF of 15 or greater on all exposed skin surfaces each day as part of their daily routine. Repeat applications throughout the day as needed, depending on the degree of exposure.

From the Health Room – Part II
This is the time of year when people, mainly young women, seek to get a head start on the tanning season. Tanning salons are advertising that a tanning bed is "a safe way to get a tan," and a good way to "get your Vitamin D." Tanning beds have been proven beyond a doubt to be very UNSAFE, providing more intense rays than natural sunlight. Vitamin D is naturally obtained by a mere 10 minutes per week in the natural sunshine, and by drinking milk. Stay away from the tanning bed...go for a walk instead!!

End-of-the-Year Parties
If you are planning an end-of-the-year party for your child’s grade, please check with Ann Ice in the office to make sure there are no conflicts and to make sure the date is put on the calendar.  If you need to reserve the Field House kitchen or the grills, you should also let Ann know.
